About Toto
Toto was founded in 1976 by guitarists Jeff Porcaro, David Paich (who at the time were also famous studio musicians working with Boz Scaggs) and bassist/singer Bobby Kimball. The name comes from the Latin word which means "all all-encompassing," the group was intent on exploring every style of music.
In 1981 Toto's third album Turn Back is a failure, but they rebound with their fourth album Isolation with two hits including the title track and Roseanna. The album and their tour helped them become a household name across the globe.
After a gap of couple of years, Toto return with the album Fahrenheit in the year 1986. It's a change from the ballads that were featured on previous albums and includes some heavy rock. This was their first platinum album in North America.
During the recording process for the fifth album the group loses their manager and is faced with financial problems. They decide to record a brand new album and change their name with a different producer. Lead vocalist Fergie Frederiksen leaves the band and is replaced by Joseph Williams, son of legendary film composer John Williams and 1950s actress Barbara Ruick. Joseph is more natural as a frontman than Frederiksen and gives the band a much-needed boost.
The band released Mindfields in 1999 and embarks on a major tour across the globe. After a few months in Europe they head to Japan where the shows are sold out. After a brief break, Toto resumes recording and continues to record their first live album entitled Absolutely Live in 1993 which includes the cover of Weezer's track Hash Pipe in response to the band performing their hit song Africa on the recent tour. Toto's touring band is rounded out by drummer Lenny Castro, bassist Shannon Forrest and keyboardist Shem von Schroeck.

In 2008, a series of lineup changes as well as a series of albums that were disappointing led Toto to end their tour for a period of time. But, the group recommenced touring in 2012 with the release of their album, 40 Trips Around the Sun.
The album marked a return to the band's best form, and the tour that accompanied it featured sold-out shows in North America and Europe. The reunion of Toto gained momentum with the return of bassist Shem Von Schroeck and guitarist Steve Lukather.
